Enjoy Farming with Us
Learn About our farming life – chat to Val, Rod, and family to find out what our daily life is like living and farming here at Forda Farm. Meet the animals and take a walk around the farm as well. We love living here on the North Devon and Cornwall border and hope you will enjoy your time here too.
Farming and us
Roddy and Val moved to Forda Farm in August of 1997, and our 4-star GOLD Bed and Breakfast opened in April of 1998. However, we began our farming journey many years ago.
We are celebrating 27 years of the Bed and Breakfast being OPEN this year! Quite an achievement.
We both went to Agricultural colleges, Rod to Seale Hayne in South Devon and Val to the East of Scotland College of Agriculture, in Edinburgh.
We had several farming jobs after college before meeting on a farm in Scotland and then moving to North Devon in 1992 to live, work and farm outside Bideford. After 5 years there, we moved to Forda Farm.
We were joined over the years by four children, only one of whom still lives with us at home; the eldest is already working in farming and at home as well. The youngest, at 18, is very keen on farming. He has just finished two years at Duchy College, where he studied agriculture. He now works for a local farmer and works at home when he has any spare time. The girls chose other careers, though the youngest has always been good at lamb feeding when needed.

Farm Stays
Val will meet you with a cream tea on arrival, this will be served to you in the dining room. If the weather is nice, you may prefer to have your cream tea in the garden. Or perhaps if you are a little late, you may opt to have your cream tea in the comfort of your room.
A member of the family will always take you out for a guided tour of the farm, if you wish.
Wellies or walking boots are always a good idea especially if the weather has been wet. Hand washing and sanitising is a MUST after returning from a tour.
We would like you to :
- Enjoy a taste of the countryside
- Get an understanding of farming life
- Explore North Devon and Cornwall
- Relax in peace and quiet
- Have a wonderful time
