Who are we?
Chat to Val, Rod, and family to find out what life is like living and working on our busy farm. Meet the animals and take a walk around the farm too. We love living here on the North Devon and Cornwall border and hope you will enjoy your time here too.
Roddy and Val moved to Forda Farm in August of 1997 and the Bed and Breakfast opened in April of 1998.
We both went to Agricultural colleges, Rod to Seale Hayne in South Devon and Val to Edinburgh.
We had a number of farming jobs after college before meeting on a farm in Scotland and then moving to Devon in 1992 to work and farm outside Bideford. After 5 years there we moved to Forda.
We were joined over the years by 4 children, 3 of whom still live at home, the eldest is already working in farming and at home too. The youngest, at 13, is very keen on farming too, but could change his mind. The girls chose other careers, though the youngest has always been good at lamb feeding when needed.
Val will meet you with a cream tea on arrival, but this will now be served in your room or outside on the allocated garden furniture which you may use during your stay.
We normally encourage our guests to walk around the farm and we would normally offer this to you with free access.
However at this current time, access to the farm will be on a more limited basis, (e.g. a farm tour with a guide) to ensure the ongoing safety of the farming family.
Wellies or walking boots are always a good idea especially if the weather has been wet. Hand washing and sanitising is a MUST both before and after returning from a tour.
We would like you to :
- Enjoy a taste of the countryside
- Get an understanding of farming life
- Explore North Devon and Cornwall
- Relax in peace and quiet
- Have a wonderful time
Here at Forda Farm we are also part of a farm tourism cooperative called North Devon Farm Holidays. It is a cooperative that celebrates holiday accommodation in North Devon on farms. To learn more about this be sure to take a look at their website.
